The problem with computing results by hand

In most schools, results week follows the same pattern. Teachers copy scores from their record books into broadsheets, somebody adds the columns with a calculator, the form teacher works out positions, and the admin office types everything again into report cards. One wrong addition or a swapped row means a child gets the wrong position, and a parent complains after the report card has already been printed and signed.

Result management software removes the repeated copying. Scores are typed once, by the teacher who owns them, and every figure that depends on those scores is worked out by the computer. When a teacher corrects a mark, the total, the grade, the average and the class position all update at the same time.

How result computation works in EduMatrix

You set up your academic structure once: the session, the three terms, your classes and arms (for example JSS 1 Gold and JSS 1 Diamond), and the subjects offered in each class. You also set how each term is assessed, such as first CA, second CA and examination, and the maximum score for each part.

Built for the way Nigerian schools grade

Every school has its own weighting. Some give 40 marks to continuous assessment and 60 to the examination; others split CA into tests, assignments and projects. EduMatrix lets you define these parts and their maximum marks, so the computed total matches the way your teachers already assess.

Grading scales are also yours to set. A secondary school preparing students for WAEC and NECO will usually mirror the A1 to F9 scale, while a nursery and primary school may prefer descriptive grades. Whatever the scale, the grade on every report card comes from it automatically.

At the end of the session, the cumulative results of all three terms can guide promotion. You set the promotion criteria, for example a minimum average or passes in English and Mathematics, and EduMatrix shows which students meet them before you promote the class.

Publishing results to parents

Once the school approves a term's results, parents can view them on their phones through the parent portal, with one login for all their children in the school. Report cards can also be printed individually or in bulk as PDF files for schools that still send paper copies home.
